MojaveRoboticsMentors
Mentors are our lifeblood!
Whether it's how to drill a hole (no, you can't bend the drill sideways while you push), to involved CAD work or building construction or electronics or computer programming, we are always in need of adults who know how to do something and are willing to teach us and motivate us to learn the skills.
It's not just technical. From before the build season starts in January, through the build season, and continuing toward the end of April, we need Public Relation specialists that can help us interface with sponsors, arrange news releases, stand-up community events.
The FIRST robotics organization hosts a mentors resource web page, highlighting the valuable work of a mentors, and giving guidance on how to become involved.
Current Mentors
SteveL (2005, 2006) - Steve is our lead mentor and pretty much lives at our shop during build season. We're talking 4 nights a week, plus one or two full days a week. Sometimes days and nights. He did sneak off for a few hours to finish his taxes. :-) He teaches us about composite structures, and mechanical designs.NateC (2005, 2006) - Real-time computer programming, sponsor coordinator, interface to Edwards Air Force Base sponsors and Engineering Directorate, and general program initiator back in 2005. He keeps saying he's moving on to other things, but keeps coming back. Thanks and good luck at Test Pilot School!
ZackR (2006) - Composite structures engineer, CAD designs. "Well, you sort of have to put it this way to make it work". After creating a motivational "Mr. Mean Spoon" the first week, he hasn't used it once because we enjoy working with him so much. He's quickly picked up the work hours of SteveL and they both stay insanely long hours to help us get things done. We think he helps us all the time for the free food. ;-)
FrankS - Effectively turned a vacant, cold, ugly building into a first rate work shop. Electrical, lighting, doors, tables, insulation, exhaust fans. Whatever came up, he was able to show us how to do it.
KarenS (2006) - Media relations, marketing efforts, fundraising.
SylviaS (2006) - Administrative bookkeeping, marketing.
Arnaldo (2006) -
xxxxx (2006) -
(Editor note: others, please help me here. Add in whoever you know has done things for the team as a mentor. People who help with short notice parent-type tasks are listed in the MojaveRoboticsParents page).
Prior Mentors (thanks!)
ChristyB (2005) - Team and faculty advisor. Motivator and mediator to get us through all the adult oversight. Chaos surfer.RobertT (2005) - Mechanical guru, from decades as an A&P Mechanic (FAA government licensed Airframe and Powerplant for aircraft).
AngelV (2005) - CAD and mechanical designs.
DougS (2005) - Got the team started with marketing, and finishing everything others started.
