"The Difference - It Makes" can be interpreted as

• "Being difference creates new things that wouldn't have happened otherwise" or
• "It affects you when you've chosen to be different."

One is an affect on the world.  One is an affect on you.  However, in either case, a person internally is aware of the difference much more than others.  Others' attention is mostly centered on the integral.  These two parameters, each wish two states, can create a 2x2 table describing the situation.
